Our Judeo-Christian Heritage
Es iz schver tzu zein a yid. From missiles recently raining down on Tel Aviv (only thankfully blocked by a combination of Iron Dome and dedicated IDF soldiers), and with the increasing assaults and despicable vandalism on synagogues during last summer’s riots and mass civil unrest and violence on the streets of LA, New York, Seattle, Portland, Chicago, and elsewhere, the sense of well-being among Jewish-Americans has understandably been strained if not shattered.
After decades of hard won social and political gains following many decades or centuries of having been targeted with anti-Semitic employment practices, and with university students and professors having faced admissions quotas as well as real estate properties carrying "no-sales" covenants, Jews now face rising anti-Semitism in ways not encountered in over half a century or more. Hoover Institution fellow and Somali immigrant Ayaan Hirsi Ali describes the backdrop of all this as being caused by sudden and rampant rise of “Tribalism” in America, and further against the always re-emerging threat of Fascism.
This does not bode well for American gentiles nor Jewish-Americans, as our American institutions and culture are firmly built on, and anchored to a shared Judeo-Christian heritage and code of ethics. Jews have been contributing to America (aka The British Colonies) in the earliest days of the colonial era, as evidenced by living artifacts such as the Touro Synagogue (קהל קדוש ישועת ישראל) which was in built in 1763 in Newport, Rhode Island. It would take pages to list the countless other Jewish contributions in art, science, medicine, charitable work, technology, and civil rights. And yet, one of the biggest risk factors in such a turbulent time period is our departing US Military service members. This is not generally discussed in polite society but empirical history bears this out - a listless or restless trained military force which does not promptly and fully re-integrate into civilian life is a threat to the well being of each service member as well as our society at large. And in this current turbulent age, these non-integrated or poorly re-integrated military members are fertile hunting grounds for Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, Fascists, and other extremist ideologies. We have found the best solution is to thank our veterans for their service by offering our service. And that service, and anti-extremist inoculation is to help and guide them to fully and completely reintegrate, and to secure gainful employment and renew their sense of place and well-being. Won't you help us to help them secure their dreams, while we work to also secure the safety and integrity of our wonderful Democracy? |
